HISTORY
  • KRU was founded by three brothers, namely Norman, Yusry and Edry, who began playing music at a very young age.
  • Coming from a close-knit family, the young brothers cultivated their talent at an early age and learnt to work together to produce their music. Living in London during their pre-teen and teenage years, exposed them to a wide variety of music, different to the Malay music market, which at that time was saturated with melancholic and rock ballads. They soon began to learn music production and made their own compilation of cover versions.
  • As avid supporters of the Selangor football team, they wrote a rap song titled ‘Viva Selangor’, which caught the team’s attention. Soon after, in 1991, they produced ‘Merah Kuning’, which was played at the stadium whenever the team played.
  • Subsequently, they began penning more original songs, from ‘Hanya Kau’, ‘Perception of Love’ to ‘Generasiku’, a demo of which was placed in the hands of Calvin Wong of EMI Malaysia. Calvin instantly liked what he heard. They were subsequently signed up and KRU was officially born on May 19, 1992, following which it became a household name in the local music industry
  • In the period from 1997-2003, the Company pursued a diversification strategy and embarked into the areas of advertising, communications, event management, television programme and motion picture production.
  • In 2004, the company further expanded its reach into the digital media and entertainment, a platform to reach its customers via three main channels namely physical retail outlets, and digitally via its online mall and mobile downloads.
  • On April 13, 2005, KRU Capital Sdn. Bhd. was established as a platform to further expand the strategy of becoming a truly digital media and entertainment platform with the intention of attaining the MSC status and becoming a public listed company.
  • Since 2005, the Company has expanded its horizons outside of Malaysia:-
